Insensate
Each year your shadow darkens and lengthens
first an interloper then an unwelcome visitor
next a perpetrator then a merciless occupier
scouring my heart out bruising me from within.
And I see your eyes avert and turn away
while my will within twists and melts
laughing as my blood thins whiter each day
your first love insensate now numbed and unfelt.
Thank you it’s true I’ve suffered the penalty
Crushed all through via your years of cruelty
Love withdrawn leeringly inflicted upon me
But now you remain unsighted to the irony.
For I found peace through that pain
And now I can live life or die yet again.
