The Poet’s Work

All the poet does is
stand out of the way
and write each word
as if it was a gift
to be bequeathed forever
to everyone that has ever cried
or sighed or thought never will there be
a thought or heart slip felt like mine ever again or hoped that love would deign
to gently touch another with words
that could never be said again.
