the sin of empathy

Do not be taken in by the devil's ministrations,
He wants you to feel sorrow for their sorrows,
He wants you to bend the knee in forgiveness,
And if you stray, if you yield, you will have sinned.

Do not commit the sin of empathy my brethren,
Do not fall by that wayside as so many have done before,
For once you put yourself in the heart of another,
You will lose your way, soon you will stumble and fall.

So be strong, draw your strength from those around you,
Reach out, harden your soul against that evil of tenderness,
Do not follow that false laid trail of compassion,
Instead choose the blessed path of gold, that leads to heaven.

A bloodied hand rises up and questions,
A dying voice calls out, whispers at its last,
Words from a heart cast doubt over it's beating,
Why was i nailed to this cross in the first place?
