invisible ink

i wrote my love out but swiftly,
As if my pen was invisible ink.

i engraved our love as if forever,
My words now lie fallen over the brink,

cliff fallen, fossilized, unknowingly eroded,
until the uplifting flood reveals once more.

And so her scrabble touch finds me,
She uncrumples my scrunched up,
Once thought forgotten wisdom,
Unfurls what is now all our secrets,
Only known now via her heart's gaze,
And meets my eye as if for the first time.

Yet it was only seconds ago.

Inspired by Ellen Bass, "Midnight Ruby."
