Sins of empathy: an inventory

Helping refugees in fear cross the frontier. Embracing and ensconcing those who can never return. Fleeing Egypt. Returning safely to Nazareth. Disagreeing peaceably and respectfully. Choosing forgiveness over violence. Soft words turning away anger. Embracing the colours of creation. Learning beautiful foreign words. Seeing that the birds of the air neither sow nor reap. Comforting mothers too ill to bear a child. Digging people out of the rubble. Healing the sick. Binding up the wounds of the downtrodden. Loving the child labelled legally different. Supporting their whole transition. Consorting with known sinners. Sharing your water with strangers. Despite the post disaster shortage. Feeding the five thousand. Ensuring those you love live after you. Dying to ensure others live after you Committing the ultimate sin of empathy.
