The Icarus Bird Suit

Rather than write of trivial things
Of sealing wax and gossamer wings
I’d rather send myself soaring into the sky
And part greying clouds before my last goodbye.


Truly I’d rather write of other hopes,
Because sealing wax and gossamer wings,
Once they’ve soared steep slopes,
Always ends with the thud that stings.
